M I S S I O NThe Kauffman Youth Development Institute, Inc. was founded in January of 1992 under the name Academic/Sports Youth Development Institute, Inc. and is a 501 (C) 3 organization. At present the most active program exists in Kent, Ohio. The goal of the Institute is to support and to provide positive academic and athletic activities and programs for "at risk" youth in both formal and informal settings, with a view towards encouraging each individual growth and achievement. The Institute strives to support existing educational facilities and programs in the community, and to supplement the efforts of those programs by helping them to identify and improve their individual academic talents. The Institute seeks to promote positive interaction for "at risk" youth both in the home setting and in the school setting, and to promote the coordination of the efforts made both at home and in the schools in order to better educate "at-risk" youth and to more fully prepare them for a fulfilling life. The Institute endeavors to foster the social development of young Black males through the use of positive social and religious experiences, as well as through use of positive role models. The Institute engages in non-political activities and programs to heighten the awareness of the special challenges faced by young Black males and offers successful and innovative methods of meeting these challenges. The purpose of the Institute is to work in tandem with the parents and the existing educational system, whether it be local or state, thereby providing a support system for the schools and for the young men attending them. Currently, the Institute has several major programs which are funded by grants, donations, and volunteer time. The programs are the KYDI After School Tutoring, KYDI In Lieu Of Expulsion Program, KYDI Juvenile Step-Up Program, and KYDI Classroom-On-Wheels. The KYDI's logo represents the Institutes goal to help youth to strive for academic success and not only athletic success. Kauffman Youth Development Institute |
